She's got me wrapped around her little paw...

Maddy has decided her new place to hang out is the toy bucket full of dog toys.  She just pulls them out one by one until there's enough room for her to get in.  Too cute!

I haven't been feeling all that well today.  I stopped getting Starbucks every morning in order to save money, but I still needed some caffeine at work so I've been drinking a Diet Pepsi.  It definitely seemed to disagree with my tummy and then I ate a brownie from the cafe at work and I was really having tummy issues.

In order to soothe my sick belly and deal with the headache I've had off and on since yesterday, I treated myself to a no stress night.

I made a big bowl of my favorite soup:

I curled up on the couch, well Maddy kind of took my place for the picture, but you get the idea:

I put on my favorite fleece pants and super comfy socks:

And I took a bubble bath:

I'm finally starting to feel a little better, but it'll probably be an early night for me.  Here's hoping tomorrow goes a little smoother in the tummy department!

Creepy Crawlers...

I don't live out in the middle of the country, I live in a neighborhood.  But, I do have horses across the street and when I walk the dogs we get up close and personal with some cows.  I obviously don't live in the middle of the city, but it is somewhat developed.  I love living here.  It's away from the hustle and bustle of the city and all the traffic, but there's a mall and tons of places to eat and shop all within 5 miles.  Unfortunately, I wasn't prepared for all the um...nature.

I need to start taking more pics, but this is a nest that this wasp/bee like thing makes over my backdoor.  So every time I would open the door to let out the dogs, this flying thing would nearly get in the house.  I hate wasps, yellow jacket-its (or however you spell it), bees, mud-dobbers (again to lazy to look up the spelling).   My ex knocked it down a few months ago and he hasn't been back, but yuck!

But those things are nothing compared to the spiders I get out here.  I can handle flying, stinging bugs much better than these spiders.  I can kill baby, well small, ones without a problem.  I'm not that girl that freaks out screaming if she sees one.  The spiders I'm getting are not little things though.  They're usually around the size of the palm of my hand-huge to me!  I actually started paying someone to mow my lawn because I could not handle these things crawling out of their hiding spots when the mower got too close.  Well that and I don't like all the frogs I have around, but that's another story.

I've been telling my dad how big these things are and he just kind of thought I was being a drama queen.  So I came home from walking the dogs a couple of weeks ago and this is what greeted me at the front door:

It's a baby tarantula.  These pictures do not do it justice.  I think my camera lens fogged up because it was so hot out.  And I was sort of afraid to get all that close to it.  This thing was hairy with a huge thick body.  Yuck!  So my dad came over to see what I was freaking out about and said that yup, it was a baby tarantula and I needed to keep an eye out for the parents.  He said I may think this one was big, but the parents literally are the size of your hand.  Just freaking great!  So far, I haven't seen any and I hope I never do!

Other than the ridiculous amount of spiders I've seen in the past 10 months, I am so grateful and happy to have this home.  If God could just tell the spiders to move on to some other place, I'd be even more grateful. :)

Friday Night Fun...

Fun isn't exactly the right word.  I've actually spent most of my Friday night in my office trying to get my life in order.

I've been working through the homework for my Dave Ramsey class and it's pretty time consuming in the beginning.  I made up a completely new budget, went through my savings and allocated each dollar to a certain place (i.e. emergency fund, retirement, Christmas, etc.), read my chapters and have been filling out a ton of forms.  I know that it's tedious and taking tons of time right now, but it'll become easier and be so worth it in the end.

I've also spent the evening going though all my mail and shredding anything with my name on it that I don't need, filing coupons, that kind of thing.  I want to just get everything in order.  I feel like I spend so much time each month entering receipts, shredding things, cutting coupons, paying bills, going through mail...I just want to get a system down that gets everything done in the least amount of time possible.

Then I can move onto other projects like cleaning up my guest room and maybe having another garage sale before it gets too cold.

Enough of this serious stuff...I bought Maddy her halloween costume and this is what she thinks of it:

Haha!  Silly girl.  I eventually got her to cheer up :)

I hope everyone has a great night!  I'm off to read SHAPE and go through my DVR!!

New Blog Design

Lindsey over at Sweet Simplicity helped me get a new blog design this week!  She did my last one as well, which was completely customized.  This time I chose a pre-designed blog template.  If you're looking for something new, definitely check her out!  Click here for a link to her design blog.  She does a great job and is super easy to work with :-)

I'm really liking this new design.  It's calm and serene and just plain pretty!  I'm trying to cut clutter out of my life and live more simply.  So overhauling my blog was just part of the process.  I hope you guys like it as much as I do!

Lust list...

It's a little ironic that this post is about all the things I'm currently lusting after, but yesterday's post was all about how I'm trying to save money. I guess that's why this is a lust list instead of a "look what I just bought!" list.

I'm dying for one of these Gussy bags. It'd be so perfect to take as a carry on at the airport or to go to the Farmer's Market or to just carry around everywhere because it's so freaking adorable!

I keep saying I need to buy a floppy hat and now summer is practically over and I don't have one :( Maybe next year...I found this one on Amazon.
I'm pretty much fixated on decorating my house in black, white, red, get the idea. But it's actually pretty hard to find decent black furniture that doesn't look cheap. I happened to see this glider when I was at Lowe's the other day. I really, really wish it was in the budget right now.

Every since I got my Canon Rebel, I've realized that while I love it, it's a pain to cart around. How perfect is this Kelly Moore camera bag?
The dogs have done major damage to my carpet and I want to replace them with laminate hard wood floors in the living room, dining room and my bedroom. The last quote I got was for around $3,000. So, this definitely won't be happening for awhile, but it doesn't hurt to dream!

When I thought about buying a home I always pictured decorating the front porch and door to really make it a home. I admire homes that are cute and unique without being tacky. My front door is white and right now I have a white flower wreath that just blends in with the door. I've been having so much trouble finding one that's not season specific. I came across tons on etsy though! This one is available here.

And finally, I want an external hardrive. It's not cute or fun, but it is practical and I need to back-up my laptop. I'm going to be so upset with myself if something happens and I haven't done it, so this should be at the top of my list even though I'd much rather get one of the others. Sometimes being an adult isn't all that fun.

Dave Ramsey...

I first heard about Dave Ramsey through one of my co-workers.  She told me she was rushing to get to her class one night and I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about.  It turns out that Dave Ramsey developed a program to help people achieve financial peace through his financial peace university.  Which to be honest, sounded kind of corny to me at first, but I would actually love not to have to worry about money.  So I signed up.

My second class was last week and I absolutely love it!  Most of the people there are around my age and have similar debt-student loans, cars, mortgages, etc.  The class cost me less than $100 for all my materials and it lasts for 13 weeks.  The first class we all wrote down our individual debt, excluding mortgages, and we found out last week that our class has 1.3 million in debt!  Crazy!  So we talk about ways to pay off the debt, and save for retirement and the future, investing, teaching kids good money habits, etc.  Like I said, it's only been two weeks, but I walk out of there so inspired each time. :)

Using his guidelines I have the following plan: I'm not saving anything right now and am instead putting every extra penny towards my car and when that's paid off it will go towards my student loans.  Then I'll work on saving up 3-6 months worth of bills and put that aside.  Then it's all about paying extra on my home and putting more towards retirement than I am now.

I've told some friends about the class and I was surprised to find out that some people thought you only go to the class if you're on your way to becoming bankrupt or just aren't intelligent enough to handle basic money issues.  The class is definitely for everyone regardless of where you are with your financial situation.  I highly recommend it, so check out his website:

And so it begins...

Today was my first day back at work after ten days of glorious time off.  I spent my "staycation" eating cupcakes for breakfast, staying up way too late, meeting up with old friends, watching the entire Season 1 of "How I Met Your Mother" and basically having a wonderful time.  Stress was pretty much non-existent from my life.  It was pure bliss.  Then my alarm went off this morning...

It's like I never even had a vacation.  All the stress and responsibilities are all of a sudden right where I left them.  Now there's never enough time in the day, the emails won't quit coming, the flights need to be booked, the dogs need to be walked...aaaahhh!

In my head I thought I could come back to work all relaxed and go with the flow.  I felt like my time off had really helped me sort of center myself and blah, blah, blah.  Not the case.

I came home with a million things to do and instead crashed on the sofa for almost two hours.  Then I woke up starving and picked up a pizza instead of cooking while I proceeded to watch 3 shows on my dvr.

I'm so incredibly thankful for my job, but I've got to find some balance soon.  At least I've tackled the hardest part: facing everything that piled up while I was gone.  I've got an action plan to deal with those pesky emails tomorrow, so let's hope it goes better!

Silent Sunday...

A recent storm we had:

After the storm came through, the sky turned this yellowish color, but I managed to get a picture of a rainbow :)

A little "staycation"...

I've been spending the last few days enjoying a little "staycation."  My end of year at work is coming up at the end of this month so I had to take my vacation days or lose them.  Rather than going on a trip I decided to stay home and really take advantage of this time off.  I go back next Monday, so I've still got five more days to enjoy!

So, this is what I've been up to:

  • Spending far too much time trying to figure out how to upload large pictures on blogger, without them getting blown out and blurry.  I've googled it, read a ton of articles, changed sizes, etc. and it's still not working.  Grrr!  I did find out that there's a new blogger edit program so I changed over to that.
  • I had lunch with one of my favorite friends from college yesterday.  It's probably been a couple of years since I've seen her and it was so great to catch up. =)
  • I also had a coffee date with my bestie this Sunday.  Love her!
  • The carpets have been vacuumed and shampooed!  My least favorite house cleaning chore, but it's done!
  • I'm working on getting my cruise plane tickets and hotels booked.  I've also taken care of a bunch of misc. stuff like extending my washer warranty, scheduling a home inspection before my one year warranty is up, etc.
  • I've spent tons of time sleeping in, taking naps, reading, playing on the computer and just generally enjoying not having to be at work.
I've got a trip to a cupcake shop planned for later this week and I can't wait to show you what I get! Going back to work is going to be HARD...
