Tweet, tweet!

I've finally gotten back into the swing of Twitter. I've had an account for over a year, but I always forgot to update with anything. Since I got an application for my phone (Echofon) it's made keeping up with everyone sooo much easier! So, I'd love to follow more of you and get to know everyone better.

My name's sassycassie3232, so come find me! Or leave your name in the comments and I'll come find you :)

I have a secret to tell you guys...I'm not as cool as I may seem (ha!). Actually, the boy calls me a nerd all the time. Here's only some of the reasons why:
  • Going to Barnes and Noble for hours is my idea of a great time out
  • I would love to be snuggled up in bed by 8:30 every night with a good book
  • I got so excited when I turned 18 and could vote that I laminated my registered voter card
  • Along those same lines, I love wearing the stickers saying "I voted!"
  • I talk to my dogs like they can understand me. And I believe that they do.
  • I have a million different colored sharpies and Papermate felt tip pens because I'm ADDICTED to them
  • I also have little glass jars on my desk at work arranged with colorful paperclips and binder clips
  • I can FEEL it when someone has been at my desk at work, even if everything is in the same place and it drives me crazy!
  • Much like a 5 year old, I carry my lunch to work each day in a cute reusable lunch bag complete with two snacks for the day
I'm sure there's even more, but I don't want to lose all my readers in one day. Have a great night guys!

The great backyard flood...

I mentioned yesterday that the builder is having to fix my backyard-this is why:

This happens every.single.time it rains. Originally they told me the yard was uneven so they dumped a bunch of sand, huge rocks, and miscellaneous stuff in the yard to try and fix it. These pictures were taken after that so it obviously didn't get fixed. These were also taken after they told me they needed to raise the fence to give the water somewhere to drain. No bueno.

Here's to the third time being the charm. Hopefully it will finally fix the problem for good. I should actually take pictures of the yard tomorrow because it looks CRAZY. Half the fence is missing, the sod is all torn up, there's mud everywhere...please, oh please, let this work!

P.S. Thanks for your sweet comments yesterday. Since we still work together I'm going out of my way to remain as friendly as I can in order to not cause any additional tension and things at work went better today because of it. I believe that you get back what you put out into the world so I'm trying to just be the best person that I can be. Silly example of this: I was at Panera Sunday picking up some bagels for the week and opened the door for a man trying to navigate a wheelchair out. I go inside and order a cin. roll for breakfast and they give me two just because! I know that's kind of ridiculous example, but if we're nice to others, it usually comes back in some way. :-)

I've been taking an unplanned break from blogger to kind of process some things lately. This past week I had a friend put me in a very bad situation (both personally and professionally), which made me realize that she was never a true friend to begin with. Unfortunately, we also work together and that has caused things at work to be pretty tense lately. So I've been reeling from all of that these past few days and it's been hard on me. It's always hard when you're betrayed by a friend and it makes me question how much you can truly trust anyone. I don't want to be jaded and turn into a guarded person that never really trusts someone fully, but times like this definitely make you think....

Work, besides being stressful because of the above, has been really busy so there hasn't been much time for blogging or catching up your blogs.

When the house got built the builder didn't grade the backyard correctly and the left side floods everytime it rains. They've tried a bunch of things to fix it, but recently decided to tear down the fence and make a trench for water to drain out. On Friday when I got home from work, I discovered that the tractor cut the cable, internet and phone lines, but nobody bothered to tell me. So I was without those for awhile, but thankfully I'm all connected now!

Oh and on an unrelated note, I was washing my car and saw that the so-called friend I was speaking of above, had ripped the fabric on my backseat with her son's carseat. I'm sure it was an accident, but really pissed me off because of everything going on.

Anyway, that's what's been going on with me and I hope to get on top of some things so that I can get back to posting on a more regular basis.

I miss you guys!

I'm not saying I'm perfect and never do any of these things, but if we all tried just a little harder to be better, I'm sure the world would be a better place.
  • Use your blinker-it's there for a reason.
  • Don't slam on your breaks and then turn on your blinker as your turning. This is annoying and defeats the purpose of letting me know that you will be turning soon and that I need to slow down.
  • Do not throw your cigarette out of your window so that it lands on my car while driving down the road-this will piss me off.
  • Don't smoke in the car when little kids are in the back seat. They don't have a choice at that age to say let me out of the car and thinking of all the smoke they inhale horrifies me. We're supposed to help and not harm our kids.
  • When you go over to someone else's house, be nice to their pets. You may not be a pet person, but this does not give you an excuse to hold their mouths shut and shove them. Nor does it give you an excuse to shove them off the couch so hard that they get hurt and limp around. If you do this, you will never be invited back to my house again and our friendship will more then likely end.
  • Do not throw trash out of your car. Wait until you get somewhere and throw it in a trash can.
  • If I find out that you are cruel to animals by starving them, fighting them, continuously breeding them, or harming them in any way I will lose all respect for you as a person.
I'm sure I could think of more, but I just needed to get these off my chest. Back to more positive posting tomorrow.

Baby Cohen

I know that so many of you have been following Cohen's story over on Megan's blog. If you haven't, please click over there and read about this amazing little boy. It's been wonderful to see all the pictures that have been posted and see how much love is in this family.

The last update I heard is that Cohen isn't going to be able to make it. He's had such a hard little life with so many surgeries and complications and he's not even two weeks old! I just can't imagine the pain and heartache that this family is feeling. To carry a child for nine months and get nearly two weeks with him to only be told that he's not going to pull through.

I know there's a reason for everything and that God is ultimately in control, but I know that they could use all the prayers they can get.

I want these clothes!

I'm watching The Breakup while doing bills and I'm just in love with Jennifer Aniston's clothes in this movie! So neutral, but classy:

Oklahoma Weather....

On Christmas Eve we had one of the worst snow storms that I can remember. The drifts were taller then me, tons of people got stranded, it was just crazy.

Then we had a hail storm with baseball size hail and it's not unusual to see cars driving down the road with cracked windshields and dents all over the entire car.

We've had at least two storms with tornadoes that got really close to where I live.

And then it was raining when I needed to leave for work. My backyard was flooded, but that happens everytime it rains because the builder didn't grade it correctly (that's another story). So I leave for work and everything's fine. It usually takes me about 25 minutes to get there.

I take this one highway to work that's notorious for bad traffic anytime it rains. There's always accidents so I wasn't surprised when I had to slow down pretty much right after I got on. It was pouring, the thunder was shaking my car, etc. Eventually we just stop and I keep listening to the radio to see if there was an accident, but they don't mention the road I'm on. They do say that there's been some flooding so be careful. Well 30 minutes passed and I hadn't even gone half a mile so I called my co-worker that takes the same road in as me and let her know that I was stuck in traffic. It turns out that she was right next to me in the other lane. So we inch our way forward and eventually make it a couple of more miles.

By this time we're an hour late for work and have been in our cars for an hour and a half. We get up to a bridge that goes over another major highway and I'm shocked. There are cars completely underwater, people just standing out in the rain with umbrellas, stalled cars everywhere, and traffic backed up for miles. I start to realize that things are pretty serious. I mean this is a MAJOR highway and cars are driving the wrong way to get away from the water and it looks like a river down there. You can't even see the road.

So we just keep inching along and the police divert us off the highway. At this point it's been two hours and I've spoken with someone at work and know that most of the roads to work are flooded. I lose my co-worker in the traffic and start trying to navigate city streets, but I get sooo lost. I was all turned around because every time I started to go down a street, I had to turn around because cars were stalled and the water was rising. I was starting to panic a little bit because I had no idea what to do.

I finally found a clear street and made it to work. It took two and a half hours, but I made it.

I'm there for a little over an hour when I start getting calls from the boy and my parents. There are four major highways that I can take home and three of them were closed. All but one of the streets leading to my house were closed. They were evacuating the area where my work was. I kept hearing all of this and was like OMG. This is really bad.

I decided to leave work and took the last highway that was open. I actually left at a really good time because the rain had stopped by my house and the water had receded enough for me to get home.

So I'm home now and I've been watching the news for most of the day. The intersection that I used to get on the highway on my way to work completely flooded at some point after I went through there. And the funny thing is, there was absolutely no standing water on the roads when I was there. The water just came up so fast!

I hope everyone's okay. I know that there have been tons of people stranded, roads collapsed, water rescues, etc. One neighborhood by me was completely flooded and people had to be rescued.

Crazy Oklahoma weather....

Silent Sunday

This is how she looked when I went to let her in the house-she found the one mud hole in the backyard. She obviously got a bath...

The great camera debate....

I read so many blogs that have just AMAZING photographs. I've been asking around and it seems like there are pretty much two cameras that everyone is using.

The Canon Rebel:

And the Nikon D40:

I need some help! I know absolutely nothing about cameras, but I really want to start getting into photography. I want something that is relatively easy for me to figure out how to use, but something that can also grow with me if I decide to really make photography a hobby.

Also, do all of you use photoshop? Or lightroom? I think those are the two editing softwares that I've heard the most about, but I could be completely wrong.

So give me all the advice you can!!!!

Because we heart it is still my favorite site...

and because I'm slightly obsessed with photography lately...and because all of these photos make absolutely no sense when put together. I just think all the girls look carefree, the couple makes me miss the boy, and I'm craving some Starbucks...

I had the best of intentions...

I went to Williams-Sonoma during my lunch break today and I had INTENDED to pick up something simple. Like those soap dispenser things they have in great scents. Or a wine pump. Or one of the other lovely suggestions I got from you guys and my friends at work.

And then it happened....I walk in the store and the first thing I see is a HUGE display of grilling, 4th of July type items. All thoughts of being realistic fly out the window and I just start grabbing things. Damn them with those snazzy displays!

I ended up with this BBQ sauce:

This rub because it smelled so yuuuuumy...
These curly skewer things:

And some stars and stripes towels. I'm going to run by Target and pick up something to put everything in. They have these metal drink holder things-basically they're a big ice bucket that you put beers and stuff in during the summer...know what I'm talking about?

I think it will be very cute, themed gift. The problem is...I sent nearly $70 at W.S. on just those four items (which is fine because I love my bff, and this is her first house and she deserves it!) and I don't even have any idea whether or not she has a grill....

Housewarming gift...

I need your help! One of my best friends bought a house last year, but I haven't been able to see until now. She's been remodeling and didn't even live there for a few months, but I feel like I should get her a housewarming present since this is my first visit.

I don't have time to order anything, so I need you guys to help me out! I'd like to avoid gift cards if at all possible and am looking for something crafty.

I saw a cute little toolbox with tools and handy stuff that I thought was adorable, but she has a fiance taking care of all those things so that doesn't work.

These are some of my ideas:
  • Picture frame
  • Candle
  • Kitchen towels
  • Hot chocolate mix or something like that from William's Sonoma?

That's about all I could come up with...and I have no idea what I would put those things in. I would want it to be functional, like a basket or something.

I pretty much love this...

I can't believe I'm just now finding this site: We Heart It. I feel like a kid in a candy store going through all those images. These are the ones that stood out to me tonight:
